Participated in the 5th Engineering University Summit on Dec. 3rd
“The 5th Engineering University Summit”, in which nine private engineering universities joined and participated, was held on Saturday, Dec. 3rd at Aichi Institute of Technology's Yakusa Campus with the aim of fostering innovative human resources in science and engineering who can play an active role in the international community. The nine participating universities were Aichi Institute of Technology, Osaka Institute of Technology, Kanagawa Institute of Technology, Shibaura Institute of Technology, Tohoku Institute of Technology, Hiroshima Institute of Technology, Fukui University of Technology, Fukuoka Institute of Technology, and Hokkaido University of Science, in Japanese Alphabetical order.
With the main theme, "Fostering Human Resources in Science and Engineering to Create the Future," the first section featured presentations by the Kanagawa Institute of Technology’s President and Vice President on the theme “what universities of technology can do to solve problems faced by local governments and regions”, with an overview of each university's efforts and presentations by representative students from each university.
After an introduction by Vice President Saito Takashi of Kanagawa Institute of Technology on "Regional Cooperation and Contribution at Kanagawa Institute of Technology," a senior in the Department of Information Network and Communication, Faculty of Information Technology, gave a report on their past activities on and off campus on behalf of KAIT BLUE, a voluntary crime prevention group of students.
In the second part, there was a panel discussion by the presidents and vice presidents on the theme of "Development of TOYOTA LQ - What is important in future technology development," with a lively exchange of views on the prospects for human resource development that can work within the mini-themes of "idea generation, collaboration among engineers, borderless, innovation creation and global environment" at each university.
At last year's Summit, President Yasushi Nagasaka of the Hiroshima Institute of Technology proposed "PBL in collaboration with the Summit" to further promote exchanges among students to broaden their perspectives.
