Professor Emeritus Masato Abe of Kanagawa Institute of Technology has been honored with the “6th Yaramaika Award” presented by the Suzuki Foundation.
The Yaramaika Award was established in 2020 to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Suzuki Foundation. Aimed at further advancing Japan’s machinery and manufacturing technologies, the award recognizes researchers who, inspired by the “Yaramaika spirit”—a mindset of “first, try and take on challenges”—have demonstrated outstanding achievements through ambitious and pioneering work. It is awarded to individuals who have made significant contributions to scientific research and the advancement of outcomes related to the production, use, and consumption of machinery for everyday life.
For the 6th award cycle, applications were accepted from March 10 to May 30, 2025. Following a rigorous review by the selection committee, the award recipients were officially decided at the Suzuki Foundation Board of Directors meeting held on February 20, 2026.
Professor Emeritus Abe has earned international recognition in the fields of vehicle dynamics and chassis control. He has led research in integrated chassis control, including the integration of rear-wheel steering and yaw moment control, as well as the development of “G-Vectoring Control.” In addition, he has proposed innovative methodologies such as driver-model-based evaluations of handling stability, making substantial contributions to the advancement of automotive technology. These long-standing and distinguished research achievements, along with his contributions to society, have been highly recognized in this award.
Kanagawa Institute of Technology extends its sincere congratulations to Professor Emeritus Abe on this prestigious honor.
