Special Event of “Kaji Kengo’s Subculture Creative Workshop – Insights from Industry Professionals” Features Outdoor Performance of PETAL SICK at Kanagawa Institute of Technology

On November 8, the university hosted a one-day-only outdoor performance of PETAL SICK at KAIT Plaza, marking the first-ever open-air theatrical production at Kanagawa Institute of Technology. Blessed with favorable weather, the event featured two 40-minute performances that captivated the audience with their intensity and creativity.

This milestone event represents a significant step forward in the university’s cultural activities, setting a precedent for future artistic endeavors and reinforcing KAIT’s commitment to fostering diverse forms of expression.

Synopsis:

Set 100 years ago in the ruins of a quarantine station, three women flee from their pursuers. They are the last survivors of a lineage possessing a terrifying power—the ability to transfer illness from one person to another. Viola, a con artist posing as a doctor; Mimosa, a loyal assassin; and Agape, a love-struck sister, have long been exploited under the protection of a powerful count, using their deadly gift to eliminate political rivals.
However, an unexpected incident turns them into fugitives, setting the stage for a gripping drama of survival and betrayal.

Biography:
Kengo Kaji began his career as a manga story writer after completing the 4th term of Gekiga Sonjuku, a prestigious training program led by Kazuo Koike, a legendary figure in the manga industry known for works such as Lone Wolf and Cub. His notable manga works include Traffic Accident Investigator Rinichiro Tamaki, Doctor Ranmaru the Killer, Ukyō no Ōzora, Attorney Haruhiko Ayakōji, and Reo, among many others. His long-running hit series Soba-ya Genan has surpassed 2 million copies in circulation.

In addition to his manga career, Kaji has worked extensively in film and television. His screenwriting credits include Ultraman Cosmos, GARO, Wolverine, Iron Man: Rise of Technovore, and Kurozuka. As a director, he has helmed productions such as Ultraman Max, ULTRASEVEN X, Ultraman Mebius, Ultra Monster Battle NEO, Ultraman Ginga, Hatsukare, Welcome to Butler Café, and Geki×Cine Dokurojo no Shichinin.

As a producer, Kaji has contributed to numerous projects, including Shibuya Kaidan, Lady Snowblood, Eko Eko Azarak III: Misa the Dark Angel, PUPS, Bird’s Eye, and Uzumaki.

He is a member of the Directors Guild of Japan, the Japan Scenario Writers Association, and the Japan Cartoonists Association. Currently, he serves as a Specially Appointed Professor in the Department of Information Media, Faculty of Information at Kanagawa Institute of Technology.
