Kanagawa Institute of Technology (KAIT) Smart House Research Center has signed a mutual cooperation and collaboration agreement with the College of Electrical and Information Engineering at National Formosa University (Taiwan). This partnership aims to advance joint research on energy management systems utilizing the IoT international standard communication protocol ECHONET Lite, contributing to global carbon neutrality efforts.

The agreement was formalized on October 30, 2025, during a signing ceremony held at National Formosa University. The event featured a commemorative lecture by Professor Isshiki, Director of the Smart House Research Center, which attracted approximately 50 participants. The lecture highlighted KAIT’s initiatives in energy management systems and smart house technologies.

Established in 2012, the Smart House Research Center promotes research and dissemination of ECHONET Lite (ISO/IEC14543-4-3), an international standard widely adopted in Japan’s smart houses, including ZEH (Net Zero Energy Houses). These technologies play a key role in Japan’s carbon neutrality strategy. The center collaborates closely with the ECHONET Consortium to advance global standardization.

Taiwan declared its commitment to carbon neutrality in April 2021, making energy-related research and development a national priority. National Formosa University, founded in 1980, actively engages in cutting-edge fields such as AI-driven sports science, smart agribusiness, and smart grid technologies.

This collaboration was initiated following the involvement of Associate Professor Du Junyu from National Formosa University in a previous exchange with National Central University, which signed a similar agreement with KAIT in October 2024. Moving forward, both institutions will conduct joint research on energy management systems using ECHONET Lite and explore applications in sports science and smart agriculture.

Kanagawa Institute of Technology remains committed to fostering international partnerships to address global challenges and drive innovation toward a sustainable future.
