We'd like to introduce "KAIT SDGs Hub"

The SDGs are the international goals set forth in the "2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development" adopted at the United Nations Summit in September 2015. The SDGs, also known as "Sustainable Development Goals", consist of 17 goals and 169 targets, and pledge to "leave no one behind" on the planet.

The Kanagawa Institute of Technology agrees with the aims of the SDGs, Sustainable Development Goals, and is proactively working toward achieving these goals through education and research. In this issue of campus information, we will introduce one of these efforts, the KAIT SDGs HUB.

What is KAIT SDGs Hub?

I'm Ikeda, a first-year master's student in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at KAIT, and a SDGs HUB Leader.

KAIT SDGs HUB is a student organization that promotes SDGs activities at Kanagawa Institute of Technology. It participates in SDGs-related activities both on and off campus, and disseminates information about the activities and its impressions.

Currently, we have 8 members from various departments, from first year undergraduates to first year graduate students, and new members are scheduled to join us.

KAIT SDGs Hub Activities

We have study sessions and meetings once a week. In addition to online seminars, we are also actively promoting face-to-face activities such as visits to local companies and exchange of opinions.

<This year's activities>
■June　
・Meeting on microorganisms that produce hydrogen
・As topics related to biomass, we discussed the trend of EU and the problem of deforestation. 

There also was a lecture from the STOP the CO2 project about the advantages of using industrial waste as fuel.

・Meeting with Kanagawa Center for Regional Cooperation and Contribution

・Presentations and meetings on power generation utilizing ocean energy
・Participation in external SDGs workshops

・Attended a seminar on carbon neutrality in automobiles

・Meeting with the Atsugi Shimin Hatsudensho, Atsugi Citizen Power Plant
・Meeting with JICA, Japan International Cooperation Agency
・Meeting with the Kanagawa Water Supply Authority

KAIT SDGs HUB Future Activities

In the future, we would like to take the initiative in organizing workshops both inside and outside the university and publicize the results widely.
